The recipes are then organised into seven different sections according to type. Each one of the recipes is clear, well organised and easy to follow, with graphic symbols used to indicate allergens used in them There are lovely, colourful, mouth watering and well presented images of many of the prepared meals, Additionally there are menu suggestions and two differently arranged index - one contains the recipes by allergen and the other is a more normal, general index about the whole book.
A very useful book for anyone who may ever need to cater for anyone with allergies - definitely one I'll be buying for others as well as myself! Dec 12, Lanie Lanies Book Thoughts rated it really liked it. For a food allergy cook book this was actually pretty good with a lot of recipes I've never seen before. I actually do have a ton of food allergies which makes it really hard to try new foods, so finding a book like this where the food is easy to make and actually reasonable to buy ingredients for is great.

I really enjoyed the beginning of the book where things like the difference between sensitivities and allergies are discussed and food substitutions are broken down and explained in greater detail. The food substitution key is nice to have in a pinch or if your not really sure what to use for what type of food, it does give you recommendations for what's best.
I did try some of the recipes and really liked them.

Of course, I'm going to keep trying more of the recipes, so maybe I'll add more in the future. There are a few recipes that sound kinda odd to me, like watermelon soup looking thing, but whatever floats your boat. Most of these recipes seemed to be geared more towards gluten-free living, and eating a lot more raw ingredients- I think it's great for any health conscious person to look at. Most of the recipes are also pretty simple, I dont think many people would have a whole lotta problems trying to make them if you took your time.

Cooking Allergy-Free, and Me
Cooking Allergy Free has lots of recipes for the most common 8 food allergies: wheat, milk, eggs, nuts, shellfish, fish, soy and corn. Plus, it includes recipes for gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian. It includes lots of full-color beautiful pictures of many of the dishes and does an excellent job covering ways to keep food contamination out your kitchen. I admit that the gluten-free aspect of this book is what caught my attention because that's the special diet we are required to follow. Therefo Cooking Allergy Free has lots of recipes for the most common 8 food allergies: wheat, milk, eggs, nuts, shellfish, fish, soy and corn.
Therefore, I am only reviewing this book based on that aspect of it, and I cannot tell you if this would be a good book to get if you were looking at it for anything else.

I particularly appreciated how so many of the recipes easily showed they were gluten free. For most of the ones that were not already gluten-free, there was a section at the bottom of the recipe which included how to make it gluten-free.
Those are my favorite two so far. I'm looking forward to trying out more of these recipes and may come back to update my review as I do. A copy was provided for an honest review. This book does a lot of wonderful things; it shows that you can still cook really delicious things while having food allergies, it has a great coding system, and it has conversions and alternates. For example one I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for a review The first thing I have to say about this book is the photos are beautiful, many times while reading it I found myself practically tasting and smelling the food in the photos, they are mouthwatering and wonderfully photographed.
For example one of the recipes might be fine for people with nut and egg allergy, but not ok for people who are gluten intolerant, it is ok because most recipes have a little blurb on how you could make it safe for people who need gluten free.
There is a very handy key at the top of each recipe to let you know which kind of diet the recipe is suitable. I really like how it is not a cookbook that has recipes that are entirely allergy free, it lets you mix and match. I recommend this book if you are a household having to deal with one or more food related allergies.
Now if only those photos came in scratch and sniff form! Sep 22, Cindy H. In exchange for the ARC I am providing an unbiased review. No pun intended, I greedily devoured Cooking Allergy Free in one sitting! I spent a lazy Sunday morning reading, tagging and salivating over the gorgeous photographs and incredibly diverse and unique recipes. As I was trying to come up with a Jewish New Year menu that would please and satisfy a large crowd who have numerous food restrictions, Jenna Short's cookbook was a one book encyclopedia of options! The cookbook is beautifully arranged and coded with helpful and useful suggestions to please almost any diner.
Most ingredients are easy to find and the recipes overall are easy to follow. I would have gladly given this cookbook five stars, however, I did find many of the recipes were a bit time consuming and required some kitchen skills. I prefer a no fuss recipe for weeknight meals but if you are entertaining then this cookbook is a MUST! Sep 18, Dirty Dayna rated it really liked it. She is lactose intolerant and most days we follow her rules there are those days where you just cant say no to cheese However it has little pictures so some recipes have 10 pictures and you go to the contents page and match the picture with the allergy.
The pictures look amazing!!! Recipees are all fairly simple and idiot proofed. By biggest issues: Add more pictures most of these are not common dishes I like the Chapter idea versus all the pictures or at least write phrases better.

Sep 21, Beyond the Pages rated it really liked it. Cooking Allergy-Free is a book that I found to be so well done. I really liked the layout and content of this book. Well, this book does an incredible job, in my opinion, of taking a serious issue and making it workable. The recipes sounded and Cooking Allergy-Free is a book that I found to be so well done. The recipes sounded and looked, per the pictures yummy! Jan 14, Anne-Marie rated it really liked it. I got a copy of this from Netgalley for review. My daughter is allergic to a lot of food and she has found this to be invaluable. However, as it is in soft copy, it has proved to be the source of several arguments over my tablet spending time on the kitchen worktop with liquids all around, so I shall be purchasing a hard copy for her from Amazon for her birthday which is coming up soon.
Thank you, Jenna Short, for making food preparation and delivery so easy for allergy sufferers. Nov 02, E rated it really liked it Shelves: 2nd-priority-book-review-material , culinary-book-review-material. Not wowed by the recipes-Very Mediterranean inspired, and quite predictable.
